Laminated magnetic thin film disks with [<10(1)over bar0>] crystallographic
preferred orientation (PO) were made on glass substrates. The structure, m
agnetic and recording characteristics of these films were compared to those
of conventional laminated films with a [<11(2)over bar0>] PO. It was found
that the [<10(1)over bar0>] PO laminated films possess better structural i
ntegrity and result in much less reduction of He and S*, and an improved re
cording performance.
