Abstract
In vivo metabolic studies of 7,8,9,10-tetrahydroazepino [2,1-b]quinazolin-1 2(6H)-one, a potent bronchodilator have been carried, out in rhesus monkeys and rats, in order to see whether this activity is due to the parent compo und or due to its metabolites formed. Structure of these metabolites have b een established by UV, IR, H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR and mass spectral data. The st ructure assigned to these metabolites have been further confirmed by their partial synthesis (Scheme I and II). Finally the bronchodilatory activity o f these metabolites has been studied in comparison to its parent compound a nd it is observed that none of the metabolites show any bronchodilatory act ivity.
