Synthesis of 5,6-dihydro-6-substituted-8H-benzo [h] quinazolino[3,2-c]quinazolin-8-ones and their heteroaromatic analogues

Condensation of 2-(1-aminonaphth-2yl) quinazolin-4-(3H)-one (III) with alde hydes in equimolar proportions in hot acetic acid yields 5,6-dihydro-6-subs tituted-8H-benzo[h] quinazolino [3,2-c] quinazolin-8-ones (IV). Dehydrogena tion of IV using potassium permanganate in acetone leads to 6-substituted b enzo [h] quinazolino [3,2-c] quinazolin-8-ones (VII). All the compounds hav e been characterized by spectral (mass, IR,H-1 NMR) and micro analytical da ta.
