Abstract
Hydrogen production for photosynthetic bacteria was combined with a fuel ce ll for light energy conversion to electricity. An 11 1-volume photobioreact or was directly connected to a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. Evolved gas d id not contain any inhibitory gas for the fuel cell and could be directly s upplied. Total volume of the evolved hydrogen gas was 140 l/m(2) under illu mination (107 W/m(2)) for 100 h. The output power of the fuel cell was 1 W. The conversion efficiency of light to electricity reached to 1.9%. (C) 199 9 International Association for Hydrogen Energy. Published by Elsevier Scie nce Ltd. All rights reserved.
