Glass samples of 50% Cd0-50% P2O5 and 5% La2O3-45% Cd0-50% P2O5 were p
repared by the melt quench technique. The optical absorption spectra o
f these samples were recorded by using Hitachi U-2000 Spectrophotomete
r in the wavelength 190-400 nm. The estimated value of optical band ga
p energy for 50% Cd0-50% P2O5 is similar to 3.45 eV and for 5% La2O3-4
5% Cd0-50% P2O5 is 3.30 eV. The width of the band tailing, Delta E, ha
s been estimated to be 0.26 eV and 0.47 eV for the binary and the tern
ary glass samples, respectively.
