M. Santillan et al., SOME OPTIMIZATION CRITERIA FOR BIOLOGICAL-SYSTEMS IN LINEAR IRREVERSIBLE THERMODYNAMICS, Nuovo cimento della Societa italiana di fisica. D, Condensed matter, atomic, molecular and chemical physics, biophysics, 19(1), 1997, pp. 99-109
In the present work, some optimum working regimes for linear energy co
nverters are analyzed from a thermodynamical point of view. The regime
s studied are minimum entropy production, maximum power output and ano
ther one which represents a good compromise between high power output
and low entropy production. The analysis is made within the domain of
linear irreversible thermodynamics. Finally, the possibility that some
biological systems satisfy these criteria is discussed.
