Abstract
To investigate the influence of the magnetic material and magnetic properti es of the underlayer on double-layered tape output, we fabricated magnetic/ magnetic double-coated metal particulate (MP) tapes with two different unde rlayer materials: aciculate iron (Fe) metal powder and plane barium ferrite (Ba-ferrite) powder. The aciculate Fe underlayer does not enhance the outp ut, however the plane Ba ferrite underlayer does, depending on the perpendi cular orientation of the underlayer. A more high-density medium can be obta ined using a Ba-ferrite powder oriented perpendicular to the magnetic under layer.
