Abstract
A values-based intervention model for team building is presented. Valu es are defined as core beliefs that guide behavior, form the basis for goal setting and motivation, and serve as standards to evaluate behav ior. Rationale for understanding individual values within the team bui lding process is provided. Assumptions and components of the model are outlined with an emphasis on (1) increasing awareness of individual c haracteristics from a values perspective; (2) understanding the predom inant Values of the team; (3) identifying the factors that promote and interfere with team cohesion from a values perspective; and (4) devel oping interventions and strategies to improve mutual respect and subse quent cohesion. Cautions and limitations of the model are noted.
