By slowly evaporating at room temperature solutions of C-60 in n-octan
e, crystals of the hexagonal solvate C-60, 1 n-octane have been obtain
ed (a = 10.10, c = 10.18 Angstrom). Although these crystals are formed
with a negative volume excess of - 24 Angstrom(3) per formula-unit, t
heir desolvation enthalpy, 60 J g(-1) (50 kJ mol(-1)), is close to the
sublimation enthalpy of pure n-octane.
