Abstract
A systematic methodology of numerical stability is presented here in t he study of numerical properties of mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian schemes for the numerical simulation of non-linear free surface flows. Two dif ferent numerical schemes, i.e. a source-doublet panel method and a des ingularized method, are investigated. The present work provides theore tical foundations and applications for numerical stability analysis th eory. The matrix stability method has been developed to obtain the spe ctral radii and normal modes associated with free surface discretizati on. Some examples considered illustrate the usefulness of this analysi s. (C) 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
