Problems of reengineering business processes in enterprises are considered;
the importance of using intelligent tools for the successful implementatio
n of the reengineering is shown. The notion of the "reengineering of busine
ss processes" (RBP) appeared in 1990 and has, since then, been attracting c
onsiderable interest from experts specializing in the field of management a
nd information technologies. Nowadays, the REP is adopted by practically al
l leading companies in the world. The main stages of the REP are described,
and the requirements of the tools are specified. The classification of too
ls is proposed, the characteristic features of classes of tools are describ
ed, and it is shown that only an intelligent tool meets all requirements of
the tools needed for the successful implementation of the REP.
