Field trapping of Anastrepha suspensa (Loew) in Groves of lychee, Litchi ch
inensis Sonn., and longan Euphoria longana (Lour.), showed that fly populat
ions were present in high numbers in May and early lune, and declined in la
te June and July. In total, 34,016 fruits of Mauritius and Brewster lychee
and Kohala longan were exposed to Caribbean fruit flies either in the labor
atory or under natural conditions. No Caribbean fruit By larvae or eggs wer
e recovered from any lychee or longan fruits in this study, whereas almost
all of the control guava fruits had infestations. Brewster and Mauritius ly
chee and Kohala longan grown in Florida are not hosts to the Caribbean frui
t fly.
