Representations of a single photon are critically reviewed, and it is found
that none of the existing theories describes it completely. It is argued t
hat a concrete physical model of a photon is necessary to resolve the conce
ptual problems. A review on the physics of singular light beams brings out
the significance of the angular momentum at a fundamental level. It is sugg
ested that this may be useful to develop a photon fluid approach to the ele
ctromagnetic fields.
