Abstract
Raman, infrared and UV spectra of tetrahedral molecules (Me3Si)(4)Ge (I), ( Me3Sn)(4)Ge (II), and (Me3Sn)(4)Si (III) were obtained. To assign and analy ze vibrational modes, model normal coordinate calculations for (C3M)(4)M' m oieties were carried out. Stretching vibrations of heteronuclear tetrahedra M4M' were studied comparatively. Solid substances I-III were found to unde rgo an order-disorder phase transition between an ordered crystalline phase and a plastic mesophase (II and III on heating to ca. 65 degrees C while I on cooling to ca. -45 degrees C).
