A case of adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the breast in a 71-year-ol
d woman is reported. This neoplasm accounts for about 0.1% of all brea
st cancers. The mammography showed a well-delineated mass without calc
ifications. Cytologic examination of percutaneous fine-needle aspirati
on (FNA) material gave th diagnostic of ACC, which was confirmed by hi
stologic examination. This report emphasized the utility of immunocyto
chemical study with collagen IV antibody on FNA material of this uncom
mon tumor. (C) 1997 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
