Abstract
A new organization which is responsible for the disposal of high-level radi oactive wastes, will be established in around 2000. The waste disposal will be promoted on a full scale after that Before implementing the waste dispo sal, it is necessary to establish the related techniques. Therefore, a seri es of issues for each step of waste disposal, such as the selection of cand idate sites, site characterization, design and construction of repositories , safely assessments. emplacement of wastes, closure of repositories. and m anagement after closure, which are to be promoted by the implementation bod y, were studied from technical viewpoints. The consideration for design con struction, assessment, etc. at each implementing step is offered as the res ult. The present paper describes the basic concept related to the disposal project.
