The viscoelastic nature of PVC cannot be ignored during the injection moldi
ng process. Strains imposed on the compound during the injection stage disp
lay recovery dynamics that are indicative of the temperature at which the s
trains were imposed. A mathematical model, employing "approximate" time-tem
perature modulus relationships, provided the basis for interpreting the shr
inkage data. A distribution map of the various relative temperatures attain
ed within the part during injection was determined.
