Background: Involvement of the stomach by metastatic breast cancer is uncom
mon. There are no exact data about the frequency of gastric metastases duri
ng life.
Patients: In the last five years, 510 patients with breast cancer were seen
at our hospital. Three patients were found with gastric metastases. These
patients had a postmenopausal invasiv lobular breast cancer with advanced d
isease including the peritoneum in two case. Two of three patients complain
ed about epigastric symptoms.
Results: Endoscopy showed linitis plastica and atypical ulcerations in two
cases respectively. There was no indication to Helicobacter pylori Cytostat
ic treatment and acid-blocking yielded to complete disappearance of the ulc
ers.
Conclusions: Metastatic involvement of the stomach should be considered red
in patients with metastalic breast cancel; especially in patients with epi
gastric symptoms invasive lobular carcinoma and malignant ascites. Endoscop
ic features often are linitis plastica or malignant ulcer. Treatment of gas
tric metastases corresponds to the palliative management of advanced breast
cancer.
