A simple and fast method for extraction and determination of trace amounts
of lead(II) ions using octadecyl-bonded silica membrane disks modified with
1,8-dihydroxy-2,7-bis(prop-1'-enyl)-9,10-anthraquinone and atomic absorpti
on spectrometry (AAS) is introduced. Extraction efficiency and the influenc
e of flow rates, pH, and type and smallest amount of stripping acid were in
vestigated. Maximum capacity of the membrane disks modified with 2 mg of th
e anthraquinone derivative used was found to be 255 mg Pb2+. The limit of d
etection of the proposed method is 5 mu g/ml. The method is applied to the
recovery of Pb2+ from different synthetic samples and a spring water sample
