Abstract
Electric and magnetic dipole beam modes are considered by a high aperture t heory based on a variation of the complex source point model in which combi nations of sources and sinks are assumed in order to avoid singularities. T he field in the region of the waist is explored and compared with that for a mixed electric/magnetic dipole pair. The higher order multipole modes are considered.
