Abstract
The adsorption of 4-cyanopyridine on a Au(111) single crystal has been stud ied using the nonlinear Sum Frequency Generation Spectroscopy. By probing t he molecule vibrations in the 1000 cm(-1) range thanks to the use of the tu nable beam of the Free Electron Laser CLIO, and in the 2100 cm(-1) range, i t was possible to monitor the progressive flipping of the molecule on the s urface when the electrochemical potential is increased from -1.0 up to +0.7 V (Ag/AgCl). These in situ experiments under potential control, allow us t o have a better understanding of the adsorption geometry of 4-cyanopyridine on Au(111).
