Abstract
A technique for the direct treatment of asymptotic binary channels in three -body systems with bound subsystems is developed in the framework of the hy perspherical harmonic (HH) method. The method is tested on the well-studied Li-6 nucleus. Comparison with "pure" HH calculations shows faster converge nce of the binding energy and larger matter radii. The model problem "Li-6" with, a very loosely bound deuteron is considered and the result demonstra tes the efficiency of the method in this case. The low-lying three-cluster states in Li-8 and B-8 spectra are studied; various observables for such st ates are calculated in a three-body alpha + H-3(He-3) + N model. [S0556-281 3(99)01010-9].
