Different extracts of U. tomentosa were tested in vitro for their anti
oxidant activity utilizing tert-butyl-hydroperoxide-initiated chemilum
inescence in rat liver homogenates. Methanol fractions of both stem-ba
rk and roots were capable of exerting antioxidant activity by this tec
hnique. The presence of different concentrations of bark and root meth
anol extracts also prevented TEARS production and free radical-mediate
