Heteroligand compounds ZnPhen(i-Pr2NCS2)(2), Zn-2(4,4'-Bipy)(i-Pr2NCS2)(4),
and Zn-2(4,4'-Bipy)(i-Pr2NCS2)(4) . 2C(6)H(5)CH(3) were synthesized. Singl
e crystals were grown, and the structure of clathrate compound Zn2(4,4'-Bip
y)(i-Pr2NCS2)4 2C6H5CH3 was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis (CAD-4
diffractometer, MoKalpha radiation, 3976 F-hkl, R = 0.0468). The crystals
are monoclinic: a = 8.458(2), b = 33.668(7), c = 11.754(2) Angstrom, beta =
110.68(3)degrees, V = 3131(1) Angstrom(3), Z = 2, p(calcd)= 1.248 g/cm(3),
space group P2(1)/c. The structure is formed from the discrete centrosymme
tric binuclear Zn-2(4,4'-Bipy)(i-Pr2NCS2)(4) molecules and toluene molecule
s. The coordination polyhedron of the Zn atom is a tetragonal pyramid forme
d by four S atoms of two bidentate-cyclic dithiocarbamate ligands and one N
atom of the bidentate-bridging 4,4'-Bipy ligand. Toluene molecules are sit
uated in cavities formed by the C atoms of the Zn-2(4,4'-Bipy)(i-Pr2NCS2)(4
) complex. The compounds were studied by IR spectroscopy and thermal analys
is.
