The Tb3+-doped strontium quinolinate was prepared by rheological phase reac
tion method. The thermal stability, powder X-ray diffraction, infrared, emi
ssion and excitation spectra are investigated. The energy transfer mechanis
m from C5H3N(CO2)(2) to Tb3+ ion and the influence of structure and heteroc
ycle on the luminescence intensity were discussed. The energy S1 pi,pi(.) e
xcited states of C5H3N(CO2)(2) can be transferred to D-5(4) of Tb3+ ion to
send out the D-5(4)-->F-7(j) transition emission of Tb3+. The nitrogen hete
rocycle makes the excitation band of Tb3+ ion shift to short wavelength.
