Oxidation of regular copolymers ethylene and propylene with carbon monoxide
of the structure (-CH2-CH2-CO-)(n), poly(ethylene ketone), and (-CH2-CH(CH
3)-CO-)(n), poly(propylene ketone), was studied in the temperature interval
s ranging from 170 to 200 degrees C and from 80 to 180 degrees C, respectiv
ely. For these polymers, the mechanisms of oxidation differ drastically and
show a complicated character related to the peculiarities of their structu
res. At temperatures above 130-140 degrees C, the race of poly(propylene ke
tone) oxidation decreases with temperature (i.e., the temperature coefficie
nt is negative). The mechanism of oxidation is discussed.
