The applicability of zirconium molybdoarsenate (ZrMAs) for efficient remova
l of Cs from aqueous solution by adsorption has been investigated. The kine
tics of adsorption of caesium ions has been studied by using radioanalytica
l procedure over a concentration range (10(-4)-10(-2) mol dm(-3)) and in th
e temperature range (303-318 K). The results showed that the uptake follows
the first order rate law with respect to caesium concentration and obeys L
angmuir and Modified Freundlich adsorption isotherms in the concentration s
tudied. The effect of temperature on adsorption equilibrium has been studie
d and the thermodynamic quantities (Delta H degrees, Delta G degrees and De
lta S degrees) has been evaluated. They showed that the process is exotherm
ic in nature. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
