On some partial integral equations arising in the mechanics of solids

We study several problems from physics and engineering whose mathematical m odelling leads to partial integral equations involving functions of two var iables. In particular, we give an explicit description of the essential spe ctra of the corresponding partial integral operators. This allows us to der ive existence, uniqueness, and well-posedness results which are useful for the approximate solution and numerical analysis of the equations involved.
