EVALUATION OF INSECTICIDE SCHEDULES FOR CONTROLLING THRIP (SCIRTOTHRIP-DORSALIS) INFESTING CHILIC (CAPSICUM-FRUTESCENS)

A field experiment was conducted during rainy season (kharif) 1992-94 to evaluate the efficacy of different insecticide schedules for contro lling the thrip (Scirtothrip dorsalis Hood) infesting chilli (Capsicum frutescens L.). Soil application of carbofuran @ 0.5 kg ai/ha or phor ate @ 0.7 kg ai/ha 15 days after transplanting followed by 12 sprays o f monocrotophos 0.04% or triazophos 0.1.% or spray application of mono crotophos 0.04% or triazophos 0.1% alone at 10-day intervals commencin g from 40 days after transplanting effectively checked the thrip popul ation and gave higher yield of green chillies. Granular application al one failed to check the thrip population effectively.
