Coccidiomycosis is a fungal infection that rarely causes cardiac disease. C
onstrictive pericarditis in the setting of disseminated coccidiomycosis can
be fatal, despite antifungal therapy and pericardiectomy. We report on a p
atient with constrictive pericarditis due to localized infection by Coccidi
oides immitis. The patient underwent successful surgical pericardiectomy an
d antifungal chemotherapy, and remains well 1 year later. (C) 1999 by The S
