P. Atanassov et al., Genetic and environmental variation of useful traits in a collection of naked barley II. Quality related traits, CEREAL RES, 27(3), 1999, pp. 323-330
Different traits related to grain quality (thousand kernel weight, starch,
protein, lysine and beta-glucan contents) have been assessed on 49 naked ba
rley accessions, belonging to six different botanical varieties and origina
ted from three genebanks. The accessions were grown during three consecutiv
e years in the experimental fields of the Institute of Barley at Karnobat,
Bulgaria. The relationships existing between the different quality traits w
ere analysed. The effect of climatic factors on the different components of
quality was also studied, by considering the variation across years. Acces
sions were compared by taking into account their origin. Finally, some acce
ssions with high protein, lysine or P-glucan content, were listed to be use
d in breeding programs.
