In order to commercialize crosswell seismic techniques in China, we conduct
ed a crosswell seismic field data acquisition experiment of large well sepa
rations in our research program at Shunning oil field, Shanxi province, nor
thwest China. This paper reported the advances of this experiment. Data acq
uisition parameters were determined by experiments on different amount of d
ynamite and propagation distances by shooting in surface shallow open hole
and recording in deep well and both shooting and. recording in deep wells.
Crosswell seismic data sets among three producing wells were successfully c
ollected by using a downhole dynamite seismic source, three-component downh
ole geophone and conventional recording system with a well-to-well distance
of 307.92m between well S3 and S4 and of 470.36m between well. S3 and S5 i
n this acquisition and the depth ranged from 904.31m to 1272.32m. Totally f
our types of acquisition layouts were designed and more than eight hundred
shots were recorded without damage to producing wells. The operation effici
ency and life-span of the improved safe dynamite downhole seismic source we
re notably enhanced by reforming the design and material selection. The dow
nhole dynamite seismic source can be used For commercial crosswell seismic
data selection.
