Abstract
The density measurement of rockfill object by additive mass method has thre e main steps. First, the rockfill object is equated to a single free linear spring edifice and we can get the vibrating mass by additive mass method, Second, let the kinetic energy of the additive mass equal to the integratio n of the continuous medium vibrating kinetic energy of the rockfill object within a certain depth underground. Then the analytic formula of the rockfi ll object is derived, Third, the density of the rockfill object is got by m easuring the vibrating mass and the wavelength of longitudinal elastic wave s of the rockfill object. This method got satisfactory results in the Yello w River Xiaolangdi Multipurpose Dam Project. This method is to measure the medium density in situ without excavation and sampling. So it is simple and convenient to operate. It can be used to measure the densities of not only rockfill object but also gravel, sand and all kinds of soil.
