Scalable video: Multi-format transcoding

Today, the application environment of Digital Video capture, content creati on, and distribution increasingly requires the ability to function seamless ly between the two major compression families: DV and MPEG. This paper intr oduces the DVxpress-MX solution for "transcoding" in real-time between the various DV and MPEG compression schemes. It discusses the outstanding techn ical issues in the current production and post-production environment, part icularly the need for an agile transcoder that enables true interoperabilit y and scalability to HDTV. Various architectural approaches to scaling SDTV to HDTV are examined.
