J. Jacob et al., Operational calculation and assessment of odor concentrations in the near field of low level sources in Saxony, GEFAHR R L, 59(9), 1999, pp. 357-361
The environmental protection authorities of the state of Saxony positively
experienced the use of the GIRL (odor immission guideline), passed by the L
AI (committee of the states for immission protection). There is presently s
ame uncertainty about how to calculate the odor perceptions in the nearfiel
d of low level sources. These cases are beyond the limits of the Gaussian p
lume models used up to now. The results of the presented research project s
how that more reliable results can be obtained in these cases by using the
dispersion model LASAT, if building influences on the flow field are expect
ed in combination with the flow field model MISKAM. To account for the effe
ct of the concentration fluctuations, a factor of 4, deduced from measureme
nts, is shown to be applicable. In consequence, the environmental authoriti
es of the state of Saxony accept especially for the nearfield diffusion mod
elling LASAT with a factor of 4 as a further model to assess odor perceptio
ns.
