A numerical method for the efficient calculation of three-dimensional incom
pressible turbulent flow in curvilinear co-ordinates is presented. The math
ematical model consists of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations an
d the k-epsilon turbulence model. The numerical method is based on the SIMP
LE pressure-correction algorithm with finite volume discretization in curvi
llinear co-ordinates. To accelerate the convergence of the solution method
a full approximation scheme-full multigrid (FAS-FMG) method is utilized. Th
e solution of the k-epsilon transport equations is embedded in the multigri
d iteration. The improved convergence characteristic of the multigrid metho
d is demonstrated by means of several calculations of three-dimensional flo
w cases. Copyright (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
