Abstract
A numerical simulation of a novel wide viewing angle twisted-nematic liquid crystal display (TN-LCD) structure has been performed. The simulated resul ts indicate that this new structure can provide an excellent gray level sep aration and a 50 : 1 contrast ratio that extends up to around +/-60 degrees along both the vertical (V) and horizontal (H) directions. No reverse imag e is expected over the +/-65 degrees H/+/-80 degrees V range. No excessivel y dark or excessively bright images are observed over the entire viewing an gle range of the display. The fabrication process to achieve this novel str ucture is also proposed.
