GST-pi is closely associated with human cancer. With the technique of
PAP (peroxidaseantiperoxidase procedure) immunohistochemical staining,
we examined GST-pi expression in normal gastric mucosa, preneoplastic
lesions and different histological types of gastric cancer. We found
GST-pi was almost unexpressed in normal gastric mucosa, but in gastric
cancer and preneoplastic lesions (especially dysplastic epithelium) G
ST-pi expression was elevated. The staining positive rates with anti-G
ST-pi antibody were 64. 6% and 72. 7% respectively. These results indi
cated that GST-pi might be a marker for gastric cancer and preneoplast
ic lesions, which would play an important role in finding and treating
gastric cancer earlier. In addition, that GST-pi expression was relat
ed to cell differentiation was also found.
