Abstract
Lipoteichoic and teichoic acids are components of the cell wall of Streptoc occus pneumaniae. A recently developed enzyme immunoassay was used in patie nts with pneumococcal meningitis to investigate lipoteichoic and teichoic a cid concentrations in CSF at the first lumbar puncture in relation to the c linical outcome determined by the Glasgow Outcome Scale. Lipoteichoic and t eichoic acid concentrations in CSF were significantly associated with neuro logic sequelae and mortality in S. pneumoniae meningitis.
