The present study has shown that hardness and wear behaviour of (15%Co)-cem
ented WC alloys can be improved by boron ion implantation. The B+ implantat
ion was carried out at different temperatures. Three ion fluences have been
chosen: 5x10(16) cm(-2), 1X10(17) cm(-2) and 5x10(17) cm(-2), each at an e
nergy of 40 keV. The XRD analysis has shown that after implantation one obs
erves a broadening of the XRD tungsten carbide peaks towards smaller angles
. An optimisation between the boron fluences and temperature has still to b
e performed.
