Abstract
The paper presents the preliminary results on improving the wear properties of TiN coated WC-Co cutting inserts by nitrogen implantation, both convent ional and using the Pill process. A moderate increase of the tool life has been observed in some cases. It is concluded that ion implantation of uncoa ted tools might be a better solution from an economical point of view.
