Abstract
The results of ab initio calculations of electric-dipole amplitudes, lifeti mes, and polarizabilities for several low-lying levels of ytterbium are rep orted. The effective Hamiltonian for two valence electrons H-eff was constr ucted by means of the many-body perturbation theory and solutions of the tw o-electron equation H(eff)Phi(n)= E(n)Phi(n), were found.
