Abstract
Eight gravity cores from the active eastern continental margins of the Arab ian Sea were dated using (210)pb(xs), (CS)-C-137 and C-14. The short-term ( less than or equal to 100 years) sedimentation rates range from 0.06 to 0.6 6 cm/year where as the long-term (greater than or equal to 1000 years) ones using AMS C-14 on planktonic foraminifera varied from 0.004 to 0.13 cm/yea r. For long-term chronology ( less than or equal to 50 000 years) AMS datin g of well-cleaned planktonic foraminifera is most suited. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
