Af. Carley et al., The formation and characterisation of Ni3+ - an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic investigation of potassium-doped Ni(110)-O, SURF SCI, 440(3), 1999, pp. L868-L874
The interaction of potassium with an oxidised Ni(110) single-crystal surfac
e has been investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Incor
poration of the alkali metal at room temperature results in suppression of
the Ni(2p) satellite structure of NiO and is explained on the basis of a re
cent theoretical model. Unambiguous evidence is provided for the formation
of Ni3+ after annealing this surface, and at 600 K it is the majority speci
es in the surface region. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserve
