Abstract
High-bit-rate long-haul data transmission systems rec quire low-chirp light sources. Therefore, a combination of two different types of MQWs for an ac tive layer has been designed and optimized with regard to the chirp paramet er. The struc tures were grown in the InGaAlAs material system, for emissio n wavelengths around 1550 nm. Absorption measurements show chirp parameter values between 0 and -1 over a wide span in the wavelength range from 1500 nm to 1550 nm.
