Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of intraoperative i ntraarterial urokinase (UK) in patients who suffered an acute stroke immedi ately following carotid endarterectomy (CEA). From January 1995 to March 19 98, 823 carotid endarterectomies were performed. The subsequent results sho wed that intraarterial UK in the setting of early post-CEA neurologic event s appears to be safe and may be a useful adjunct to re-exploration in impro ving neurologic outcomes.
