Abstract
The present study was designed to characterise an unusual Streptococcu s suis isolated from an aborted fetus of a pig. The isolate displayed growth characteristics, haemolytic and biochemical properties of the C O2-dependent genital tract ecovar of S. suis. In serological studies, this strain cross-reacted with specific antisera produced against stre ptococci of serological group B. However, the isolates did not hybridi se with a group B specific DNA gene probe.
