Abstract
In this paper a review of the application of pin load techniques to measure simultaneously both the tangential and normal forces on the tool-material contact surface using only one gauge has been described. Results are presen ted for compression tests of aluminium and brass cylinders. The results of the experiments indicate that generally pin gauges are not suitable for ver ifying the hypothesis on the physical law of friction forces. (C) 1999 Else vier Science S.A.
