The synthesis and coordination chemistry of the PPhx(C6H4-3-C6F13)(3-x) (x=
0, 1, 2) ligands containing perfluoroalkyl ponytails have been investigated
. A comparison of the spectroscopic data for coordination complexes contain
ing these ligands with those for complexes containing PPh3 or the related p
ara-derivatised triarylphosphines indicates that these meta-derivatised lig
ands are slightly poorer sigma-donors and that steric crowding in the [PtCl
2L2] complexes results in the formation of the normally thermodynamically l
