A novel difunctionalized 5,5'-dibromomethylene-2,2' bipyridine ligand was p
repared and covalently bound with concurrent crosslinking by a post-polymer
modification method to (N-vinylcarbazole-vinylalcohol) copolymer. The elec
trochemistry and W-vis spectroscopy results both confirm the covalent attac
hment of ruthenhan transition metal complex to the polymer backbone. Differ
ential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) indi
cate high thermal stability of the copolymer. The copolymer is also highly
phosphorescent making it a potential polymeric material for transition meta
l based electroluminescent devices.
